I believe Discover is great for a first credit card. Limit may be low but I think they have pretty good approval odds.

Don’t get a credit card that has attached fees.
Set up your account to automatically pay your balance in full each month.
See if you qualify for a card with some kind of Cashback perks. It’s free money.
If you pay your balance in full each month, it is just like a debit card. Just be disciplined on that front.

Look at Discover IT. It’s a secured card so essentially what you deposit is your limit. Start off with like $200-$300. After 6 months of on time payments and such they’ll reevaluate, give you back your deposit, and up your limit this moving it from secured to unsecured. This is what I did.
